Shamanic Death Doula Programs with Lisa Meade

Program 1: The Shamanic Death Doula: Bringing Loving Support to Our Family and Friends
September 9 - November 1

Life is filled with many little deaths and the shamanic practice honors all the beginnings as well as the endings.

In our Western society we are wonderful at celebrating and honoring new beginnings. From the birth of a new baby, marriage, graduations, new jobs, and so on. What we do not do very well are the honoring and celebrating of our endings. While in many religions there are services and ceremonies that honor the death of our loved ones, the celebrating is often uncomfortable or awkward. And we often do not know who to turn to to begin the process, if it is not a sudden death.

Shamanism recognizes the multidimensional aspects of the life cycle. Energy never ends, but just transforms. Working with spirit helpers and ancestors the shaman is able to access the different realms in which all energy exists. It is within these realms that support can be given to the dying and to the family and friends who remain behind.

In my shamanic practice I have turned to the cycles found in Nature, as She is the ultimate teacher and brings wise guidance to us. Every season has a beginning, a middle and an ending and all of these chapters hold tremendous opportunities for honoring and celebration. Additionally, found within these chapters are subtle transitions and processes that lend themselves to an awareness of the true beauty of life and the promises held in the endings.

My experience with serving as a Death Doula is very personal. I cared for my parents during the final years of their lives, created opportunities for them to have their wishes met, celebrated and honored. As they approached their deaths, time was spent remembering all that they shared in this lifetime. I supported family and friends in the process and at the end sat beside them as they crossed over. Then we spent a good deal of time honoring and celebrating them after this transition. Over the years, I have offered this service to a number of friends and their families as well as clients and their families. It is in this service that I bring my shamanic practice to the honoring, supporting, remembering and celebrating.

Program One of The Shamanic Death Doula: Bringing Loving Support to Our Family and Friends (September 9 - November 1) will offer you lessons to bring an awareness to the process of dying, an exploration of death throughout different cultures, an understanding of the role of the Death Doula, helping the dying to define their wants and needs as they approach death, ways of offering support to the dying and to the family and friends who remain behind, a sharing of how the shaman creates sacred space for the body, mind and soul and so much more. This program is ideal for bringing the healing and support of a death doula to your close friends and family during their time of need.

If, upon completion, you feel compelled to move on to Program Two, (dates to be announced) you will be introduced to even deeper concepts surrounding death, ways of self care for the Death Doula, working as a team with other support services such as Hospice, learning how to access the other realms to find support and guidance for those approaching death, the different stages of death, exploring the fears about death, offering spiritual support and compassion to all involved, helping the family with the stages of grief, shamanic rituals and ceremonies to name a few. This two month program is ideal for those who want to offer their services as a Shamanic Death Doula to the public.

And finally, I will be offering an additional program, Program Three,  Shamanic Death Walker, (dates to be announced) a program that will teach you the shamanic practices, rituals and ceremonies one can use to help the reluctant souls to “crossover”, learn the reasons why do souls linger, understand what earthbound souls are and how to help them, explore in depth the shamanic perspective on death and more.

Program Two can only be taken upon completion of program One. Program Three can only be taken upon completion of Programs One and Two.

Each of these programs is a 8 week program, and you can complete it at your own pace. The information will be presented in a private Facebook group and will remain available to you for 30 days after the program ends.

Each week 2 lessons will be posted in the group and a link to either one Soundcloud or a Video to support that week’s lessons. There will be a place for your questions and sharing. I will also have available to you a resource section with book suggestions, websites, articles of interest and more.

Each 8 week program is $150.
